What Can I Tow?

Follow the flow chart and check whether you need to take the trailer test. These rules apply if you passed your standard B category driving test after 1st January 1997.

Note: The weights discussed are the plated weights displayed on the vehicle and trailer and not the actual weight of the vehicle or trailer.

MAM-Maximum Authorised Mass or Gross Weight. Vehicle MAM = Weight which is shown either in the vehicle hand book or on the vehicle VIN plate and includes the vehicle and its load

Trailer MAM = Gross weight which is shown on the ID plate and includes the trailer and its load

Remember that driving without the correct licence is against the law and cancels your insurance.
